Yea, lot of people install overly rich jet kits and the mpg's suffer.  I should know because I'm kind of one of them.  I have to jet rich just to lower the temps enough to reduce pinging that I can get.  Ironically part of my problem is due to restricted cooling due to the larger tank.  In severe operation conditions I've burned through almost my whole 4 gallon tank in 100 miles.  Normally I'm good for about 120.  If I could jet leaner I'm sure that I could get more like 150 or 160 out of that tank.
