Message: <blockquote data-quote="ossagp" data-source="post: 165221" data-attributes="member: 1650"><p>uhuh.  when my grandfather died in 1963 he was pretty far down on the income ladder.  nothing to leave really.  but there were over 400 people at his funeral. lots of people I never met that told me how Charlie had helped them get work or sent them in one guy's case $14.00 so that he could get "west" to a better life.   I used to see people in the 50's that had just gotten to the san joaquin valley.  car full of kids and belongings.  no where to go so they lived in the car while they chopped or picked cotton,  pruned or picked grapes,  knocked almonds and anything else.</p></blockquote><p></p>
