Does the American flag make you cringe too? The same country than ran off Native Americans and brutally murdered them for selfish wants of MORE land? The country that rounded up Asians during WWII and put them in prisons just for being Japanese? Yeah, but the Confederate flag is SO bad because it represents the Southern states. Remember, it wasn't just the Southern states that were racist against blacks. If you know some history, you will recall that even the Northern states were just as racist against blacks. Remember the 54th Massachusetts Regiment (the first all-black regiment) that was denied combat, not given any equipment, and heckled by the white soldiers? Here's a quote from Abraham Lincoln...the freer of the black man, right? He's a northerner, so he CANT be racist. “I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races—that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this, that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.” ~ Abraham Lincoln, Debate with Stephen Douglas, Sept. 18, 1858 It was a racist world then...not just southerners. If you honestly think that people sporting the Confederate flag are all racist, you have a lot of learning to do. As a lot of us say down here....Heritage Not Hate. I even know black people that wear the Confederate flag. To us, it's a symbol of southern pride and many other things.
