As far as tires go, Life expectancy is the last quality I look at.
If I wanted a long lasting tire I'd get one, but it would be worthless in the dirt.

I look at footprint, knob spacing, and reviews regarding front end feedback and predictability. The front tire is by far the most important to me. If I can't trust the tire in EVERY instance, then it's worthless to me. Life expectancy is useless for the performance I'm after.

EDIT- I run PSI so low I have a tendency to destroy rims. But I'd rather replace rims than smash my face into a rock due to do a lowside in the sand.

I have 1400 miles on my k270 /tr8 combo, probably 70% street 30% dirt..... They are not worthless in the dirt... I hit gnar on them and the front has never washed out on me.

Due to the shear number of DOT approved knobbies out there, I have every intention of trying them all.
I have a list on my desk at work with 6 different sets I will be trying and comparing. There's even a trials tire in there.

These pirelli's are just the first victims on a long list tires the WR500 plans on eating. She has quite an appetite... -BIG DAN:thumb:

You don't want a trials tire on the front in the desert. The rear is fine, but it's not for everyone.

I hated the Pirelli XCMH front. I bought it because it had the rep of the side knobs not shearing off. While the side knobbies stayed attached, the traction was horrible. Can you say understeer and washing out?

It's amazing to me how different bikes react to the same tire. My Beta has better front grip with a MT21 than my XR600 had with any tire. Come to think about it, the XCMH might work on the Beta while it was a long lasting disaster on the XR.

4mm is SO HEAVY. Look at these badboys. Must add 3.5 lbs to my rotating mass... The boxes barely contain these things.

The correct piston rings from wiseco. Fits like a glove. End gap .016" top ring .018 bottom ring.
