2 Stroke 1998 CR80R

Took the CR out today, rode about 2 hours. It seems to have a sluggishness around 1/4 to 1/2 throttle, but screams up on top.
Did a high speed plug chop at the end, and here is a photo, taken through my Baush & Lomb magnifier;
This has the 120 MJ in it.
What do y'all think?

A little lean on top for my liking.
Drop that needle another clip too and see what happens.

I spoke with my professionally trained motorcycle repair co-worker and he said if it's furry but the color is good then it's lean and not getting enough fuel to cool the plug. I didn't know plugs needed to be cooled.
Anyway, I put the $12.36 stealership 122 MJ in it.
I am expecting that for that price it'll fix all my worldly motorcycle problems, and do the dishes as well.

I did run it with the 125 in, and the plug came out wet and it was bogging & smoking, and had that "muaawww" sound when I got on it. Right now it's ridiculous fast, so much that I wonder if the kiddo is ready for it.
The 120 was what I could get from the RMATV order, so I tried it.

Edit;
Here are some pics after a full warm up today and 2 test rides, still have the 120 MJ in it, plug chop on 2nd run.

How does it look now?
Also, is this too much spooge for 3-4 test runs and 15 minutes run time?
I did mix the fuel/oil at 32:1 then poured a little bit more oil in the tank, as was suggested here...View attachment 30574 View attachment 30575 View attachment 30576
And a pic of the boy and his bike;

Looks like he's ready for it now, or soon will be. To add to that, my bet is by the end of this season he'll be asking dad for a 125.

What plug is in it? My kids 85 always ran a bs10.

I think you are probably going to be right on that.
He tore it up today, and ran much faster than I expected to the point of making me nervous. He layed it over 3 times going slow, but overall did 300% better than I expected.
At times he was faster than me.

Its a BR10EG, and it's black and sooty as well.

Good deal. Glad he is enjoying it.

Last night I installed a 1 size smaller PJ.
This made the air screw more functional, I.E. - when I turned it, it affected the running of the bike at idle, whereas it had no effect before).
So after some adjustments, warming it up, and all in my garage (no riding or loading), I revved it up and did a plug chop at high RPMs.
Probably not the proper condition, but when I pulled the plug it was not quite soaking wet, but was definitely not dry or the mocha color. I was able to easily wipe off some of the "wetness" from the plug.

So now I am wondering;

Should I drop the MJ one size, or drop the needle clip one position?
Is this a grey area?

Ok so your pilot is set. Good.
The bike does need to be under load when doing the mid and main. That means riding it. Also keep in mind that you are using yamalube which tends to be sooty.

Actually, I listened to your thoughts on the Yamalube sootiness thing, and decided to NOT run full Yamalube, and mixed it with some Wal-Mart oil. I also took the advice of yo Dadda and poured in just a bit more oil in the tank for the first tank.
What is in the 80 now is a mixture of Yamalube and Wal-Mart 2T oil. Since I am not a fan of Wal-Mart, I will be buying an alternative. Maybe Belray or Royal Purple.
Zach will be here tomorrow at 1pm and we are going to take the tool kit and the jet kit and go out to the dez and do some runs.
Run it, take a look at the plug, and re-jet accordingly.
Trying to get both the YZ and CR ready for AZCP on Saturday.

Don't mix oils. Never ever. Use one or the other.
Nothing wrong with yamalube. It's a great oil just sooty and hard to read.
