I have always heard the same thing as Rienesl said - most of the "Phillips" head screws on Jap bikes take a non-US standard driver to remove or install. That's why so many people round the heads on them. The JIS is Japanese Industrial Standard. I bought a set of JIS drivers from Motion Pro and haven't rounded a bolt head in years.
