Dave - there is way more surface area than a conventional filter. It doesn't matter to a guy like me who only looks after MX bikes but, I would think for the desert guys, that would be a real bonus.I personally do not see any advantage of this air filter over any other good air filter. Those pyramid looking things sticking out will not do anything to improve the air cleaning capability because the air will be sucked through the thinner part and bypass those bumps and it just looks like a bigger pain in the ass to clean. And who really cares about some spider thing in there anyway. I call lame air filter and just another gimmick.
