Sticky-fingered thieves made off with as much as 30 million Canadian dollars (US$30.4 million) worth of maple syrup from a little-known strategic reserve in rural Quebec—leaving authorities to investigate just how much is missing and where it has gone.

FARMINGTON, CT (WFSB) -
-Farmington police have arrested a man they said neglected the health of a disabled person under his care.
Police arrested 47-year-old Robert Retallick on Wednesday after a brief standoff with police.
According to police, a third party found the victim in need of medical care and Retallick had removed the victim's lifeline medical alert so help could not be summoned.
Police attempted to serve a warrant for Retallick's arrest at his Scott Swamp Road home where he refused to let officers in and made threats to harm himself.
Officers were able to force entry into the home and found Retallick inflicting injury to himself with a large kitchen knife.
Police said they attempted to get him to drop the knife, but Retallick refused. Officers were able to use a bean bag round to get him to drop the knife.
Retallick was taken to Hartford Hospital for treatment.
He is charged with cruelty to persons and interfering with police and will be arraigned in court at the end of the month.
