The 500cc four cylinders used to be the top MotoGP class until they changed the rules allowing the 990cc four stokers. Even at 200+hp they could not keep up with the new four stroke engines.

It's pretty much the same story as the dirtbikes. The two strokes were at least even if not more powerful at peak. They just could not match the broad torque curves.

Every once in a while you can find a two stroke motogp bike for sale.
