Tusk Mega Tire Iron

I carry the Motion Pro cold rolled steel ones. The are not too heavy and work fine for me. It just barely fits in my tool bag. I think it is the shorter 8 1/2 inch one, but it may be the 11 inch version.

Never had much luck with patches, because most of the flats I have seen are pinches. I carry a front tube. It works in the back as well.

Have you guys seen the "safety fix" for flts? In the event you have a flat and no tube, there's a what looks like "zip ties" that you use to tie your tire to the rim in 4 places.

Make note to self....buy GIANT zip ties!...:smirk:

There is a guy over on TT from Sedona who does some long distance rides. He had a ride report a couple of years ago where he rode out 50+ miles with four big zip ties.

I carry a tube because I often ride places where the zip tie method would not cut it. It's an inflated tire or walking.

I have patched tubes many times, the rear tube I am running right now was patched about 500 miles ago, works great. Natural rubber tubes, like Bridgestone HD and UHD can be patched, synthetic rubber tubes need a special glue and patches. I'm not throwing away a 30 dollar tube due to a nail hole.
Worst case scenario protip, got a flat and no tube? Stuff the tire with grass, lots of grass. Learned that from the locals down in Baja many years ago when our boat trailer got flat #2, the spare was used for flat #1. Took a while to collect enough grass, but it worked and was able to drive a hundred miles to the nearest tire shop.

How do you put on the zip ties, a few long ways in the middle and then a few around rim and tire???:noidea:

4 places across from each other...1 each around the tire and rim so the spokes and knobbys keep the tire from spinning (like a bead lock rim)...I can't imagine the length required if going AROUND the tire.....................................DAaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that'd be long!

got myself a couple cheapie tire irons today.. 4 bucks each and small enough for a bag but enough to get some leverage... ill let you all know how they work out when my tire i just ordered arrives
