I don't know how long the stroke is, but it was an attempt at big block torque out of a small block(ish) Steve Ossagp or one of the older dudes might know might. Thats what I had in mind for it, on top of doing my other truck related things :)

I want to get rid of the 16.5's and go to 32's on 16's, which I believe is 285/70R16

Couple things....first to answer the question of stroke, it's 4" which makes it a square bore block also the "M" is intended for the 351 as the 351 is a 400 block with a shortened stroke, the 400 is just a 400, I believe on the emmisions stickers they were labeled 351m/400. Also the 400's had a reputation for pinging due to higher compressions and the decline of availability of leaded fuel in the 70's they tried reducing compression with dished Pistons and backing down the timing curves but they always had the tendency to detonate.

Which one was the Cleveland and which one was the winsor?
I believe the winsor was the small block and faster. While the Cleveland was the work horse.

Yup.....actually the c is not considered a big block, but it appears larger. As far as which one is quicker, opinions seem to differ on this, mainly because most ford enthusiasts are crazy, but I always felt the Windsor was the quicker one and the Cleveland was or M was the torquier motor.

So the Windsor was used in Vans and the like while the Cleveland went into cars.
The Cleveland being the torquier motor and the Cleveland was quick to spool up. Ford trucks only ever got 360's and 390's up until the early 80's where they then switched to 302's, V6's and straight 6's (?). I thought they had a 400 stump puller available as well.... Anyone know?


PS. I had a 26 Sportfisher with 351 Cleveland in it and a mercruiser out drive. Fricken thing topped out at 3400 rpm and just tractored through it all... effin scary when you PLOUGH through 20 foot swells.... I would have been happy if she could hit 4200 and rode up the swells a bit before breaking waves.... nope, straight through :shocked::picard:

i believe the cleveland was a 4 bolt on some and could be modified to a 4 bolt on others where the windsor was only 2 bolt mains.

Hahahahahaha Yeah the Cleveland was available in 2 and 4 bolt mains. The 2 bolt main left enough room so you could convert it to a 4 bolt main. Usually the 4 bolt 4V was the cobra and cobra jet motors. Cleveland's came in cougars torinos and the panteras I believe. As far as the Windsor Cleveland debate the Cleveland was more for performance with much larger chambers in the heads. And I think the Windsor with Cleveland heads is the 351M. Not sure tho.

Actually the 351M was a 400 block (4"bore) with a shorter stroke. i believe the heads are the same as the 400
