Got an 1 and 1/4 inch of rain in 2 days. The climbing was amazing. The hills were so dry that it just soaked up all of it. About 1/2 inch under the crust is where the traction was hiding. Beautiful!

Yes. It's carbon build up. Fairly normal for certain castor oils or what I call dirty oils. Yamalube is a "dirty oil". The wetness could be because the plug isn't getting hot enough or you are not riding it in an adequate power range for your jetting.
Things to consider:
How many hrs in top end?
Dirty carb?
Rejetting if the above are addressed.
Worn/weak reeds.
Plugged exhaust.
