250 The 1999 YZ250

211 is still good. Not all the sound in video is piston slap, you can have a loose power valve also. Has three, main center wears before secondary side ones. Could even be shaft jumping around. But piston slap is all part.

It's getting hot here and I have a Shadow that I just tuned up sweet (I'm so much more comfortable with a 4-stroke), and a Magna that needs transmission attention, so I can backburner the YZ and tear it down. And since my elbow still hurts from the umfufu slow-speed crash on the hard desert at the track this past weekend on the YZ, I think it might be time to take a break and re-assess, and heal up a bit.
@Mike (or Palmer) - if you could provide some links on how to do this for the $200.00 that Mike mentioned, I would appreciate that a ton.
I will definitely tear down the top end and inspect first. If it is the PV as Palmer mentioned, I might still go ahead with the rebuild anyway if it'll only cost 200. That's a no-brainer.
In short, I am ready to take a break from the YZ for awhile and slow down. The XR200 is looking good right now.
I actually just missed out on a kdx200 that I should have picked up, but y'all know how that goes...

Oem micro fiche for 2004 gets you top end gasket kit. Found in optional parts, measure bore and get a new piston (Vertex) mike will say Wiseco.
I would also get a JD carb and dump that crappy one.

I like the model that JD perscribes, never have felt the need for any of his products since keihin makes about any profile imagineable (imo), but his price is competitive and when you consider getting one from someone like SUDCO and tune it, it is very viable.

Okay, I googled it.
Who is this guy?
Does he just modify carbs, and is that you guys are recommending I do with this carb I have?
Or are you recommending a new carb?

I think you should pull this jug off and have a good look before you throw any more money at it.... or you can keep buying parts until it gets better..... Just saying. $18 in gaskets could save you hundreds...

I can totally do that. I still have the gasket set for $13.00 that SRAD turned me onto about 2 months ago.

I'm sure somewhere here I mentioned it. I never check compression when I get a used bike. I go straight to a new top end. Pull the jug, check the parts.... New PIston and rings.. cheap insurance. The exception being my KX80 and my TTR

Just keep throwing money at it. Tear it down, PC frame and sub frame, new plastics, graphics, all the goodies, rebuild the engine, new JD carb, seals/gaskets, next year you will be happy.

I think I mentioned that I take a similar approach. But hell, I don't check compression on anything. If someone has a fresh receipt from a shop I know that says they put on a new cylinder or replated one, it means something. "Fresh topend" means almost nothing. Used parts. I offer based on what it is worth needing plating and a fresh piston unless I know the bike well. Sometimes all the owner is asking is what I would be willing to pay based on the above anyway. No need to look further. Buy, take home and take apart.
