Other 1993 Yamaha WR500 Teardown/Overhaul

Get to work! I want to see the finished product.

Be sure to take lots of pics before you ride it as the extra pretty shine goes away pretty quick depending on how and where you ride.

It Starts...
Moose Wheel bearings were the first thing I could do as I had the bearings and seals lying around. Looking for other things I can assemble...

008.JPG

Gently drive the bearings!

Push the seals in by hand and a final tap to seat it in the bottom of the recess.

Flush!
014.JPG

Inner hub spacer MUST go in before the other bearings!!!

Rear hub

2 Bearings in the drive side... 487CCs needs 2 bearings apparently...
022.JPG

Stack 'em in there!

Complete!!!

I feel like it's starting to get rolling here. I don't have the cash on hand for the parts list yet, but we're getting there!

Either way it's PIMP...:smirk:

Looking for Fuel Tank options. As they don't sell an aftermarket tank and the OEM is near $300.

I have sanded all the paint off the tank and it has come to a purple hue. Also, plastic gets a 'fuzz' when you sand it. Not sure the best way to handle this. I want it WHITE.
Rattle can is not an option for this bike. Ever.
Plastidip in the can seems logical as I can just peel it off and reapply as it gets dirty or wrecked. But still not a fan.

Another idea I had was use this sweet black glossy leather GSXR fairing bra I have lying around and making it into a cool WR500 tank bra. I am good at sewing and It would survive the elements for quite some time.
But is a leather tank cool on a Pimp Dinosaur??? :noidea:

That was my idea.
Or have somebody make something like this, or have a custom aluminum tank that uses modern shrouds made.

go to home depot and get a scotch brite pad pack. Spend all of your free time sanding it with the green scotchbrite and some bleach. next go buy the blue "scratchless" Scotchbrite and spend time buffing it with that. It wont be perfect but then you can use Plastic renew to get that new plastic look.
good luck..
