I want to shake your hand for this bit of correct grammar. Everyone says "me and my brother or me and my dad" and it drives me bonkers. I think they even teach it incorrectly in school these days as literally everyone says it incorrectly, even on television.
I always notice when people say it wrong as well. Lol +1 for good grammar.
Believe it or not, I think it is my brother and me... You take the "brother and" out and that is what is correct. Just my $ .02.
And it's not "my brother and me". The correct way is the way I said it, "My brother and I". It is common to hear people say it that way but it's incorrect. You had the right concept but I won't get into the differences between nouns, pronouns, and if they're subjective or nominative etc.
Not because it is complicated but because I probably have forgotten the small differences myself. Just think though, if you remove "my brother" and are only left with "me". The verb "were" becomes singular and turns into "was". So you now get, "Me was crapping myself". Please tell me that looks wrong to you...because it is. It should be "I". "I was crapping myself". Get it? Good...moving on.
