What did you do to your bike today?

My brother and I rode about 60 miles of spangler hills last saturday. About 200ft out of camp my brother pulls in the clutch and coasts to the truck. A terrible 'thunk' from his aircooled heart sent a chill down both of our spines... Pull out the kick lever and... she's solid...
:picard:

This bike has seen better days, but has treated us VERY well over the last 4-5 years. Time for a seat cover and some deep cleaning.

Beautiful DG expansion chamber and matching muffler make this bike sounds so raw...

Just a little bit dirty...

The head got away unscathed... just signs of running a little rich.

Aaaaaand that's a pile of piston crumbs...

Crown helped chew the piston skirt into shiny aluminum dust.

Missing the skirt there, buddy!

Gotta split the cases no matter what. Pull the engine.

Greasy ol' bitch.

Pile o' Chit

Cylinder got away free of any blemishes. She'll get a good measuring and probably a hone.(Skirt break mean piston-cylinder clearance is too great. Possibly could need a bore.)
I love me some carnage!

New thread Biggy D!

El Jefe, James or Burger Kueen - clean up on isle 5 please! :prof:

I have a friend who paid similar. It's a spectacular bike but when I had All American KTM in Ramona work on my 300, I commented about the 500 and they said that if I was thinking about that bike to buy a regular 450, add a street legal kit to it and bore/stroke it to get the 500cc's. They said it would actually be cheaper due to the CA laws.

I don't know how much of it is true, nor any of the particulars, but if you're looking at buying that bike it's something to think about.

My guess is they didn't have any 500's in stock. I think the price difference is $500+/-. Why run the risk of not getting a non plated bike plated and go through the hassle of adding a street legal kit? Price would be more id think.

I'm not sure, but they knew I wasn't buying the bike right then so no reason for them to try and be manipulative. It had something to do with the taxes and registration fee's for plated vs not plated being converted to plated.

I really don't know, but if someone's looking at a 500EXC, it might be worth looking into just to see if there's an advantage.

mind you that is the shop that left out all the packing in my pipe. no bolt in the seat and my brake bolt was loose and about to fall off when i told them to get my bike race ready and handed them a CC.

I know service differs from person to person but i would never trust anything a shop taht does this says.

I Simple Green'd my bike, I wish I had before and after pictures. But trust me...it looks so much better!!

It cleaned up very well.

Next up is a rear tire and figuring out this carb issue. I cleaned the carb and it was pretty filthy. It was overflowing the float at one point but I haven't noticed it leaking any since then. The off-idle bog is still there though. I didn't get to check the float needle seat because that screw was about to strip out, but the tip looks fine on the needle. It had a 134cc kit put in it and it has not been jetted since that.
