What do you think of this bike for sale?

the kx is still current. nothing too redeemable about the rm though
That may be true, but I am looking at this in a 'would this be right for the boy right now' mindset.
I am not looking at it from a $$$ perspective.
He started with the DS80, which had a good engine for him but too small a frame (he's tall), went to the XR100 which has a larger frame but a more tame engine, so I think this might be a good transition to a 125.
Its a bike like you said, kids are racing at 15 years old. So it could be a decent first real dirtbike.

And if I can do it for cheap, then that is what I need right now. Plus, the XR100 is slow and he is way to tall and heavy for it anymore. He just went/is going through a major growth spurt, and he needs all new clothes.
Resale value is not on my radar for the RM right now; track time and experience is, and the price is right.
I'm sure he wont be on it long, he goes around the track as fast as I do these days.

Right. and it comes with a guarantee that it is going to run for longer than 60 minutes? Having been into this a LONG time I can see, smell, and hear when someone is shortsighted. I can see the motivation, but it may be a good lesson for both.

Why don't you just buy him a CR125 2T???
Worried he might whip yo ass?
The RM will fail quickly and lead to you falling out with the boy or spending more cash!
XR250????

Oh I will. I am always on CL looking for bikes, everyday.
And he is my one and only so I gotta be careful. But if he does kill himself maybe I could just borrow a kid from you?
I'm in Scotland:wave:
I dont think they'll hold that against you...

If you don't buy it, I will. We love our 86 KDX200. It is my brother's primary steed. 90 mile+ fuel range.
Won 'bike of the year' 5 years now. Yes, I have awards ceremony every year for the bikes in my garage. -BIG DAN:thumb:

The KDX is one bike I'd love to add to the stable, don't really care what year or size, they were all great trail bikes, can't really think of a bike that is as good for the beginner as a play bike as it is for the more experienced hard core riders.
